How long does an oil painting take to dry?

I have been working with oil paints lately. I have never used them before for my art. I was just wondering if any fellow artist out there may know how long it takes for oil paints to dry? Its been over a day and my painting is still wet to the touch.How long does an oil painting take to dry?
It depends entirely on the thickness of the paint and how many layers you have. Oil paint might appear to be dry to the touch but in general it takes 6 months to 1 year to dry 100%. At least dry enough that you can varnish it. But in all reality there are paintings hanging in the Louvre that are **not** 100% dry.





It ought to be dry to the touch after about a week or so, but if you want it to dry faster add Liquin to the paint or use paint and paint thinner/mineral spirits and it will dry much faster.How long does an oil painting take to dry?
It depends on the thickness, the type of oil paint, the color and where it's drying. The average time is somewhere between 3 to 6 months to be totally dry. It mostly depends on how thick you use the paint.





There are additives you can mix in to speed the drying. Cobalt drier or so called Japan drier, for example. Those can really speed up the drying process, but use sparingly, these things can affect the color of the mixtures.
It'll probably stay wet for maybe 2 or 3 more days. It just depends entirely on how thick the paint is and the air conditions in your house. I've had that same problem so just be patient. Don't try to put it out in the sun... When it drys it'll have cracks and stuff.
