New to oil painting. how unsafe is it leaving a water washed rag used to clean oil paint and other medians?

well vented window, 2-4 hours direct sunlight. Curtain in window. Can it spontaniously ignite?New to oil painting. how unsafe is it leaving a water washed rag used to clean oil paint and other medians?
There should be no problem, I did it before and I never had rags spontanously ignite.

Though proper prtection should be taken when working with flamable materials.New to oil painting. how unsafe is it leaving a water washed rag used to clean oil paint and other medians?
wet hay can combust all by itself. Its a risk thou small without the oil. With the oil by a smoke detecter.Seriously one of my friends started her house on fire this way.Keep rags in a sealed tight container.
You should put all rags used for oil paints, turps, varsol, etc. in a special metal can. Since water and oil and turps etc. don't mix, it will be impossible to get every bit of the oil or solvents off the rag. No other media is dangerous except oils, that I know of.
Although it's not environmentally friendly, I use paper towels to clean oil paint off brushes, in order to avoid the problem of how to clean the rags. Rags with oil paint on them would be most likely to spontaneously cumbust if you washe dthem and then put them in the dryer.
