i want to paint old barns, windmills ect.How can i learn to paint with oil paint? K J?
go out and get yourself all the necessary supplies then just paint, paint alot and paint often. but as you start out painting dont start painting objects or trying to draw with paint. color is the most important thing in paintings. start out trying to get values and colors right, ask urself, does this color work well with the one next to it, painting is color if you get that right everyhting else will fall into place. and only paint whenyou are excited if you are not you are licked before you start. goodluck! How can i learn to paint with oil paint? take a class and practice
why is this in the photography section.
There are several painting shows on TV that could teach you fairly well, my favorite is The Best of The Joys of Painting with Bob Ross.
1) buy a absolute beginners oil painting book and read and practice
2) sign up for a class--beginner, childrens, adult ed etc. oftentimes offered thru arts in the parks programs
3) buy some paints and start.
Community colleges often offer inexpensive oil painting classes, or you could check local art galleries/ art supply stores. Sometimes artists advertise classes there. Ask a friend who is an artist. Maybe they can teach you the basics. If all else fails, the library has do-it-yourself books on all types of mediums. Good luck!
The only way you are going to learn to paint with oils is to just pick up a brush and dip it into the paint and have at it. You will learn by doing. That's how I did it. If you take lessons from someone, you will fall under their influence and your work will look like theirs. There will be no originality. I started painting with oils when I was 12. I paint every day whether I ';feel'; like it or not. My style is super realism, or faux real.
When I show my work, it doesn't look like anyone else's. It stands alone and 95% of the time, my work pulls in Best In Show and that's the truth.
