Want to have a try oil painting - have used watercolour and acrylic. Any advice. How to use oil paint?
First remember some oil colors are toxic like white which has lead (very poisonous, and a carcinogens; much more dangerous for children). So cleanness is a MUST, and avoid using the kitchen sink or workind near food or were food is prepared.
Second buying a book might be a good idea, but there are plenty of websites giving free tutorials like:

Practise - and trial and error.
You will find it very much different from using acrylics etc - advice i would give is to not start off the paint too thick at the start of a painting - thin the paint using turps white spirit etc and then gradually build up with thicker layers.
You dont need to go out and buy canvasses to experiment on, go to your local art supply shop and they should have special paper which is cheaper - or simply prime pieces of wood, hardboard etc with acrylic paint before painting on oils.
Good luck
You'll find that oil is easier to work with as it is slow drying so you can change things anytime. It gives you a cance to study what you have done before, maybe even the day or a few days before, and see what you can do to make youyr painting better. Then it is easily changed and painted over. Both water colors and acrylic are fun to use, but oil is the medium of all the best artists, in my opinion, although there are some who would disagree with me.
Besy of luck to you!
You might want to try the water mixable oils first. They are really nice to work with.
well you practice every day.
