i have just began work for an auction and am having trouble telling the difference between the mediums--oil pastel chalk etc also when a something is an etchingI need to know how to tell when a painting is an oil, paint, watercolor etc?
You need more than we can offer here in the written word. Go to the art department of your local university (or even the high school) and get some advice from the art instructor. You need the actual visual experience to fully comprehend the difference.
