i have heard that putting out a few bowls half filled with ammonia will cut the odor. might be trouble if you have kids or pets though. i hard that from a painter once, and from the guy at a paint store another time. guess it can't hurt to try it, the stuff is cheap. good luck, hope this helps. How to eliminate oil paint odour in our home?
I suggest that you open all the doors and windows that you can, and turn on the fan above the oven if you have one. If you have an attic fan turn it on so it can suck out the odors. Try to be able to do this stuff all day. I accidentally painted a dresser with an oil paint and boy were we high. We live in an apartment so we took the dresser outside and opened the doors and turned on the oven fan. We were less high in a few minutes but the smell took longer. How to eliminate oil paint odour in our home?
Don't paint with oil based paints if the smell bothers you. Use latex paints if you are talking about painting walls. If you mean for art, use tempra paints. Besides smelling bad, oil paint is the pits to clean up since you have to use solvents like paint thinner and gasoline to get it off (which are both really bad for your skin too). If you've already painted, open all the windows, set out fans and as a final step, get some febreeze or lysol and spray it around. Then, leave the house for as long as possible to let the fumes die down.
a few bowls of vanilla in the smelly room will help. :-)
