How to paint clouds oil painting?

Start with the darks, and work in white slowly. Depending on what the real clouds look like, add small areas of color. Use Naples Yellow- it seems weird, but it's what makes them look fluffy. Add the final highlights in nearly pure white. (As a rule you shouldn't be using straight white- it should always have a small amount of color added to it.)How to paint clouds oil painting?
Clouds are lighter in the foreground( and softer) and they become slightly darker and bluer as they receede into distance. Also the edges become slightly sharper as they go back.

When you paint the light in the clouds, look for the warmth of the sunlight, the temperature. How to paint clouds oil painting?
This is what I do with sky. I put a band of white about two inches down then another band of blue about four more inches down. Then a band of white...horizons are usually lighter... I blend them using an x motion across horizontally. Then with the clouds and while it is still wet I start to scruff in clouds. I will use the same brush with the same paint in it. This almost always gives me wonderful darks to then add white fluffs to. Don't forget to feather edges of clouds. The painting tells me where the clouds are. How they should look.

Hope this helps somewhat. I will however sometimes add just flecks...or tiny spots of pure white on some clouds. Just a tad. if the day is sparkly...most of mine are not.

I almost always finish with a wash of burnt umber or raw umber so it tones these things down and gives it a nice finish. Thus the white never remains pure white.

Good luck and I would be happy to critic it for you. But then you would be obliged to do one for me too.
