well I cannot say it takes a particular given time because oil medium relies on ambient air temperatures rule of thumb in average conditions allow 3 days depending upon how thick the medium is applied and also the condition of the surface.
Acrylic or water borne paint can dry off surface hard in as little as 20 minutes. How long does it take for oil based paint to dry? same question for water based paint?
how old is the wood, how dry or moist is it, how humid or dry is it where you are painting, how many coats are you applying for a good finish, are you sanding between coats, who is the manufacter of the paints, what type of wood is it-pine or maple. ALL THIS WEIGHS INTO YOUR QUESTION
how can you answer because so many things you dont know ie surface to be painted /thicck or thincoat/air temp/ ventulation / even out side temp will play somepart in the time span /how it is put on to the surface?spray /brush/pad /roller/
Depends on the paint, heat available and humidity.
Look on the can, it will give you a time until you can topcoat.
oil based paint can take up to 24 hrs.,latex can dry in 20min.it tells you all of this info. right on the can.
