Here's a ';recipe'; that I use. I got it from a book by now dead artist Helen Van Wyk. It works best with gold trim on pottery or jewelry or such. First paint the ';gold'; area with raw sienna thinned with whatever medium you favor. Then mix white with a little cad. yellow light and paint that wherever you see the highlights of the gold - the brightest, shiniest parts. Now mix a tiny bit of alizarin crimson and black and delicately work that into the raw sienna areas so that the darks and lights all play off of one another. The only way to make something look shiney - like gold - is to contrast the darks with the very lightest highlights as they bounce off of the base color - which is the raw sienna.Hey anyone could tell me how to make color gold with oil paint?
